Just wanted to let everyone know that I was just informed of a new Race/training run happening on May 16. Daniel Hodel tells me that the Queen Ka’ahumanu Triathlon Club is sponsoring a nice flat (notice the elevation chart above) 1/2 marathon. The rest below I clipped from their site:
Okay, if you’re like us, you’ve looked at the Big Island events calendar and wished there were a few more events and a few less gaps between key races. And between Peaman’s 10-mile run in April and The Triathlon Formerly Known as Honu (and the Kona Marathon races), we found a need and decided to fill it. So mark your training calendar for May 16 and get ready to run a half marathon starting at 7 a.m. from Old Airport Park.
Thanks to the Big Island Running Company and local endurance legend Cory Foulk, we plan to have several aid stations along Ali’i Drive, two of which will be available in both directions for a total of five fluid stops.
The course is mostly flat with just a few rolling hills, turning around just short of the steep hill that goes up to Kaeuhou Shopping Center.
Best of all, the race is free. No registration, just show up in front of the Pavilion ready to run at 7 a.m. sharp, and then sign out at the finish.
So that’s the news I’ve got for ya’ll. Sounds fun (and painful – just the way we like it). More info can be found on http://www.queenktriclub.net .
Until next time,
